Re-Emergence, Re-Invention, Restructuring and Redesign

It’s been ages since I’ve written a blog post and I must state at the onset, this entry has NOTHING to do with what this website was originally created to be about.

Although I rarely update this site and need to do a better job of that, today I decided to write about a few of the life-altering events in my world that have occurred in the past year:

  • Loss of a beloved client of 7 years in mid-September (due to his taking a position with a well-known online company to lay the foundation for his marriage last October);
  • Referred to a highly organized and efficient new client in November (who has taught me how to work in Infusionsoft);
  • Development of my own product during Christmas due to successful implementation of another client’s promotion (but technological issues deflated my initial excitement about launching it, and stalled further activity); and
  • Loss of another long-term client at the end of April, two weeks before my Mom died.

My Mom’s passing on May 9, 2015, a week after her 80th birthday on May 2, was surreal when I think back on it. For me, it wasn’t as unexpected as it could have been. And I’m SO thankful she heard me in January when I said “I hope I see you when I come back in March, and I REALLY want to see you when you turn 80”. I believe she waited for me, and I’ll be eternally grateful that God saw fit for me to be there with her in Georgia instead of here in Florida.

Why did I share all of this? Because think it’s important to be transparent.  And lately, I’ve just been MIA and thought it time to open up a bit.

Since my cocoon of a world has imploded, it’s become necessary for me to put myself “out there”. And since May, I’ve kinda been in a fog because I didn’t know how to live in a world without Mom. I guess I’ve been in pause mode, or on hiatus. I asked for strength and was graced with the peace that passes all understanding. So I decided to just take each moment as it came and refused to do anything that was going to cause me stress. That included trying to find replacement income.

You see, since 2007, I have NEVER had to seek out new clients. All of my clients have been by referral. And that’s the cocoon I realized I had been living in when my dear client called a little more than a year ago to let me know he was taking a position and semi-retiring his online business. It was a few days later when I had a complete crying melt-down because I realized I had done absolutely NOTHING to mitigate or prepare for the loss of my weekly income.

Well, now that all of my Mom’s affairs have been taken care of, I believe I can pay attention better and push myself to keep moving forward. That means my time off is over, and I am actively seeking new clients who need the quality technical virtual assistance I provide. That means starting over in my ‘business’ with a clearer definition of what it is I do and have to offer.

Twelve years ago, after losing my last full-time ‘permanent’ job, I wasn’t looking to start a business. I was looking to make some money online. And I’ve realized those are two entirely different things!  I remember searching the Internet for hours, daily, for months, which became years, before I finally found an opportunity to earn an income from online work. That opportunity led me to the client who basically taught me pretty much everything I’ve learned in the Internet Marketing space since 2007. And because of him, nearly every client I’ve worked with has been a referral.

The somber reality that I finally had to face, which actually didn’t dawn on me until a year ago, is that I never set out to build a business. That means I have had to seriously look at what I have been doing online, and figure out how to move forward in a manner that better supports what I enjoy doing; what I bring to the table; and the value of my expertise.

In preparation for “getting back into the game”, I am feeling accomplished for tackling the following a few days ago:

  • Backed up ExpertHelpDeskSupport and NetMarketingForNewbies sites;
  • Updated 10 sites to WordPress 4.3.1;
  • Updated all WordPress plugins, including InstaBuilder 2.0 on 4 domains;
  • Purchased, installed and configured InstaMember on my first EDHS site (to replace my non-use of DAP);
  • Created an Excel spreadsheet for all my DAP products for conversion to InstaMember

And now that I’ve also integrated, the bonus, InstaTheme (Lite version) with InstaMember, I’m in the process of redesigning the look of my first membership site created with DAP while learning it.  Unfortunately, that site has been languishing for five years; it was past time to do something about it.

So as I make progress on the ExpertHelpDeskSupport membership site, I’ll posts updates here.

By the way, if you know anyone who could benefit from my skill set and expertise, please know that I’d welcome any referrals you care to make while I learn how to market myself and my business better.  🙂

30 Day Stretch Yourself Challenge

A few hours ago I listened to the Opening Ceremonies of the 30 Day Stretch Yourself Challenge hosted by Kelly McCausey of

Admittedly I wasn’t sure what to expect, but while listening, found myself motivated to participate because it’s all about clearly defining “Who I AM” . . . “What I do” . . . and . . . “What I want YOU to do about it.”

Those are pretty clear goals that I’ve decided I’d like to achieve in the next 30 days. However, “tooting my own horn” has never been my thing AND it’s been uncomfortable trying to do so. But I’m STRETCHING in 2015 and determined to see results. So, I’m taking this Challenge and inviting you to do the same.

Here’s what I’ve learned about it so far:

In the Spring of 2013 Kelly McCausey hosted the first 30 Day Stretch Yourself Challenge with a group of determined people who wanted to grow their online businesses.

The Challenge was fun and productive and participants requested a repeat Challenge. Kelly’s heart was willing but her schedule was too crazy and it wasn’t to be when initially intended.

But I’m really pleased to tell you that she’s decided to bring the Challenge back, and guess what? It started today!

Take a peek at all you could accomplish with us this month:

The Challenge is all about Content Marketing.

Kelly asks you ‘What is it you want your market to know about you?’ and she’s there to help you figure out what that is if you’re not quite sure yet.

Then, you choose one of seven specific content creation challenges to complete during the month and you ROCK it out with Kelly’s advice, feedback and encouragement.

Full directions are provided for every project so while you do need to have a site set up, you don’t necessarily have to have much else ready to participate.

Wherever you are, that’s where you’ll be starting 🙂

One benefit of participation is being part of the Challenge Community. Kelly has created a private forum tucked away on the Solo Smarts site where everyone posts their project of choice and gives updates.

All of the other Challengers get to see and give you support as you work things through. Knowing that you’re not alone is a huge mental and emotional lift when you’re tackling something new – when you’re Stretching Yourself!

Get signed up for the Challenge right HERE!

Oh, I almost forgot . . . there’s a VERY limited time coupon code you can use because I’m already participating in the Challenge. Just enter: JOINME30 to knock off 30% of this value-packed journey to defining a more awesome you!
